Low Force Waterfalls

Description

Low Force is a series of rapids and waterfalls on the River Tees at Newbiggin, Middleton in Teesdale. This area sits on the Whin Sill, a unique rock formation of dolerite (known locally as whinstone) that spans County Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria. Kayakers ride these falls and climb out onto the rocks from the pool at the bottom. The river is exceptionally clean, and coloured by the peat bogs upstream.
